About

My name is Jurgen Marx (Badenhorst) I was born on the 20th of May 1977 in Pretoria, the beautiful capital city of South Africa. Sadly there were no pictures of my arrival, during an era when film was king, 35mm cameras were everywhere, autofocus had not been invented, there was no Internet and there were no cell phones—smart or otherwise. There was only one camera with a microprocessor, and real photographers had bulk rollers and shot Ilford HP-5 and smelt like Fixer and Kodak D-76.

My first ever interaction with a real 35mm camera was the birthday gift brain child of my Aunt Alberta, who taught me the basics and took every picture of me and my family I ever owned. Every other picture was taken by the seasoned school photographer that wore those uncomfortably tight denim shorts….yikes!!!!

Myself…I capture images, find moments and tell photo stories and best of all I freeze time…

Oh and PS. I DON’T WEAR THE TIGHT DENIM SHORTS…
